don’t let the vampires bite!

We at AFE try not to play favorites.  Every party is unique, important, amazing, etc.  Exception:  This Halloween themed birthday party was FABULOUS.  It is categorized in my brain as “Top 5 Most Memorable Parties,” and at the moment… I can’t recall the other 4.

For my 13th birthday celebration, I had a pool party.  Wait, is that right?  Maybe it was a slumber party… or even at the skating rink?  Hmmm… I don’t remember.  (Mom, please don’t let this hurt your feelings.  I am sure it was wonderful and that you spoiled me and my friends beyond what was necessary.  By the way, I love you dearly.)

This will never happen to Emily, who will undoubtedly never forget her 13th birthday bash.  I got a phone call from Emily’s mother this October.  Emily’s parents wanted to throw her a party as unique and memorable as Emily herself.    They couldn’t find an available venue in Houston on such short notice, and we had less than 2 weeks to plan!  I jumped at the chance to help and started searching for available spaces.  I came across the Heights Theater and just knew it was perfect! 

When the big day came, Lauren and I were probably more excited about the event than the kids.  We had a purple and orange color scheme with spooky Halloween accents at every turn.  When the 100+ costumed kids started pouring in the door, they hit the dance floor like they were born to party!  (When did 13 year old kids learn to have so much fun?  When I was 13 I would have been far too mortified to dance in front of anyone!) 

The night was a huge success.  The edible highlights were the pecan fried chicken with truffle mac & cheese, sweet potato fries in custom white cones, popcorn bar, and frozen lemonade.  Between eating and hitting the dance floor, the kids created custom silicone bracelets, snapped hilarious photos in a photobooth and had their portraits drawn by a caricature artist.  All in all, I’ve never had so much fun working on a Saturday night!
