22 Jan 2010If there is one thing I have learned by working for A Fare Extraordinaire, it’s that it is possible to throw a party just about anywhere. We’ve thrown parties in homes, parking garages, hospitals, law firms, dialysis clinics, bank lobbies, bank drive-thrus, and a horse arena. In fact, my very first event to throw as an event producer at A Fare Extraordinaire was a 50th birthday party… at a funeral home! The “birthday boy” actually laid in a closed coffin while his friends had cocktails and roasted him. Then he dramatically lifted the coffin lid and made the most unique entrance I have ever seen. I was only three months into my employment at AFE, and I was absolutely petrified! I couldn’t focus on anything but the fact that I was prepping food right next to a door that had an “Embalming Lab – Private” sign on it! Luckily I made it through the night, and the next few birthday parties I coordinated did not involve a funeral home.
Recently we added a new fabulous “venue” to our list. This summer Rachael bid on a gala hosted by Houston’s Buffalo Bayou Partnership…and got it! We were so proud of Rachael and thrilled to be working with such an amazing organization. The most exciting part was that the 400 attending guests would be dining on the Sabine Street Bridge. Rachael and the coordinators at Buffalo Bayou came up with a “Grassroots Gala” theme. There were roots everywhere – in the centerpieces, in the menu and even hanging from the ceiling! It was all hands on board as we set up dozens of tables, laid linens and set each organic and earthy place setting. As the sun went down, the bridge and tent had a truly majestic look… take a look for yourself!
