a night of magic

Looking for something to do this week? (Especially since Houston weather is proving to be COMPLETELY unpredictable this time of year). Well A Fare Extraordinaire knows from firsthand experience that Houston Museum of Natural Science’s Special Exhibit: Magic! is, well…magical!

The show takes a scientific approach to examining the art of magic, which makes it fun enough to entertain and interesting enough to educate. The exhibit even features live magicians every Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Magic! opened in February, yet hosted a “Magic VIP Nite” last week. The exclusive event gave donors and members a chance to view the exhibit, see some live magic tricks up close and enjoy some delicious A Fare Extraordinaire appetizers and desserts!

We love to do events like this, because we get to put a playful spin on mature ingredients. To keep with the theme of the night, we provided “Star Dust” truffle-grilled cheese sandwiches and “Magic Wand” chocolate cranberry pistachio bark. It was hard to tell if the kids or their parents were enjoying them more!

We think Museums provide a great backdrop for any kind of event, because there is something about them that makes you feel young again- like a wide-eyed kid on their first school field trip! It could have been the exhibit or even the funky DJ cranking out Beatles and Bob Marley renditions, but let’s just say I caught more than one adult shamelessly busting a move last night.

Moral of the story: Think outside the box next time you’re brainstorming a venue, menu item or theme for an event, no matter how big or small. And if you’re having trouble getting creative, you know A Fare Extraordinaire can swoop in and save the day!
