We at AFE try not to play favorites.  Every party is unique, important, amazing, etc.  Exception:  This Halloween themed birthday party was FABULOUS.  It is categorized in my brain as “Top 5 Most Memorable Parties,” and at the moment… I can’t recall the other 4.
For my 13th birthday celebration, I had a pool party.  Wait, is that right?  Maybe [...]

If there is one thing I have learned by working for A Fare Extraordinaire, it’s that it is possible to throw a party just about anywhere.  We’ve thrown parties in homes, parking garages, hospitals, law firms, dialysis clinics, bank lobbies, bank drive-thrus, and a horse arena.  In fact, my very first event to throw as [...]

In the two weeks that have passed since we went live with this blog, I’ve become excruciatingly aware of my own abilities, or lack thereof, to keep up with it.  I will feel a rush of excitement when I stumble across a new blog idea.  I think, “Oh, that would be PERFECT for my next [...]

A Fare Extraordinaire is excited to be participating in Houston Bride’s annual “Evening of Bridal Luxury” event.  This year the event is being held at the Bell Tower on 34th Street.  The Bell Tower is an absolutely stunning facility that boasts a gorgeous ballroom, cascading water wall, elegant wine cellar and more.  Rebecca, Rachael, Karen and myself [...]

One perk of working for an event planning company is that invitations are always pouring in!  We constantly receive invitations to openings, fashion shows and galas, and it often turns into valuable business.  When we get the opportunity to actually execute the event, it often means we get a “sneak peak” of the feature before everyone else.  [...]

Have you ever been invited to a bridal shower?  Of course you have.  We can probably all relate to losing our refrigerator beneath dozens of save the dates and shower invitations.  When it comes to attending the showers, I never know what to expect.  I’ve been to stuffy, formal showers that involved standing for uncomfortable lengths of [...]

For your average bride, the typical checklist includes a pasta bar, something blue, baby’s breath, and a champagne toast.
For Bevin Bering Dubrowski, her checklist included the following: avocado bar, live mariachi band, plastic sunglasses… and… oh yeah, hundreds of flourescent tube lights.  (Every girl dreams about flourescent tube lights at their wedding reception, right?)  Obviously, Bevin [...]

Last season we had the opportunity to cater a launch party for Knoll’s Houston location.  The piece being launched, Generation By Knoll, is by far the most comfy office chair I have ever had the pleasure of testing!  After walking through the showroom, Rachael and I sat down to put together the menu.  Knoll’s enthusiastic team [...]

Every legendary business has a signature item.  McDonald’s is known for the Big Mac.  For Thomas Keller, it’s the famous “Oysters and Pearls” entree featuring pearl tapioca custard, oysters and a sizeable amount of caviar.
A “signature item” is almost like a personal signature, something that can only be imitated, never copied.  It’s the mainstay of the company, a [...]

Isn’t technology fabulous?  What would we do without it?  Well, according to Karen, who founded AFE in 1985, it went a little bit like this:

Buy stamps.
Lick envelopes.
Use typewriters.
Check our spelling with real, tangible dictionaries.
Look up contact info in phone books.
Talk on a phone that actually has a CORD.  (I know, the idea is horrifying!)

Luckily for [...]
